Tuesday, July 25, 2000 Today we rode from New Haven, IN to Greenville, OH, a distance of 87 miles. We probably rode at least an extra 10 miles first because of a detour on Highway 49, and then when we did get to Greenville we missed the turn to the motel. The good news was that the route was very level, although the wind was a head wind. We only had one or two hills that required very low gearing. We stayed in two or three gears most of the time. At one point we came to the top of a small hill. I looked to the east and I was able to see for a long distance and was able to see several farms. It was a beautiful sight. We stopped in Chattanooga for lunch at a bar, the only place in town that serves food. When we asked, “How many miles to the next town?” The answers varied from 30 to 45 miles, and when we left they all came out to see the bike and say Good-by. In Fort Recovery there is a tall monument to the victims of an Indian victory. It did not mention the reason that the Indians attacked. It was also a monument to the eventual victory of another general over the Indians. |
