Saturday, July 01, 2000 We left the motel at Pelican Rapids about 6:30 AM. We rode the bicycle to downtown Pelican Rapids and ate breakfast. By the end of the day we had ridden 82 miles. The distance was not a problem but the route was again southeast and the wind was very strong from the southwest. Every time we went east we were pushed by a nice tail wind but every time we went south we faced a strong head wind. The temperature was in the low 90’s. By the end of the day, we were both very tired. Today we came into an area where there were a number of dairy farms. Many of the farms had more than one silo. We also saw a barn that was perfectly round. The land was hillier and we saw a number of oak trees for the first time. If it had not been for the wind, it would have been a very pleasant day. With rest periods, it took us 9 hours and 16 minutes to go 82 miles.
