Greenville to Tipp City

Wednesday, July 26, 2000

This morning dawned clear and hazy. When we left the motel, the temperature was in the mid 60’s. It did not seem that it would be a hot day. We had only gone a short distance when we both realized that today we were really going to sweat any time we had to exert ourselves. The humidity was very high. We went up and down a couple of hills and I had sweated more than I did the entire day before. We slept over 9 hours last night but we were both still tired from the last 3 days of riding.

Last night Mary Kay informed me that we were only 20 miles from our daughter’s house in Tripp City, OH. I informed her that I thought our daughter’s house was more like 35 miles away. Riding the bicycle from Greenville, OH to Tripp City, OH we traveled 37 miles. At one point we turned the wrong way. After going in the wrong direction for 1.5 miles we discovered our error. I told Mary Kay that I was just making sure that the days ride was closer to 35 miles than 20 miles.

Except for the first couple of miles and one or two hills toward the last 1/3 of the ride, we rode again through the flat Ohio farmland. The end of the trip was on roads with heavy traffic and no shoulders.

We are now at our daughter’s house for a must needed rest period. We will have time to catch up on the laundry, buy some new books, etc. Before we head for Kentucky and Virginia. To date we have ridden over 3,000 miles with an average of 60 miles per day.
