Wilmington to Aberdeen

Tuesday, August 1, 2000

Today we rode from Wilmington, OH to Aberdeen, OH, a distance of 66 miles. I, as navigator managed to miss at least two turns so we ended up about 10 miles east of where we planed to be and came to Aberdeen on a highway that was busier than the route we had planned to use. It is definitely time to fire the navigator. In addition, we again ran into a detour where the road was closed for some type of repair. The ride was also harder because we are both tired after yesterdays ride and Mary Kay is tired of being lost.

New bridge under construction

The route was mainly over gently rolling terrain with a major up and down every so often to keep things interesting. When we finally reached the Ohio river valley we went down a hill that must have been at least a couple of miles long and our speed never dropped below 30 miles per hour. As we rode along the Ohio River we saw a very large coal fired electric generating plant on the Kentucky side. We also took a picture of where they are constructing a new bridge across the Ohio River just west of Aberdeen.
