Germantown Rest Day

Friday, July 14, 2000

Today was the first rest day we have had since Minot ND. I spent a great deal of the day reading a book. It was great. Mary Kay, Barbara and I did go shopping for groceries and miscellaneous items. The two of them managed to get me to agree to buy my very first pair of sandals and to have my hair cut. One of the items that we bought was a belt for me. Mary Kay is sure that I have lost weight and my pants are saying the same thing because, for some reason all of the waist’s on all of my pants are suddenly too big. Before we left Pasco, all my pants were a little tight in the waist.

I also spent a little time with my son-in-law, Scott Lynch, before he had to go to work. The bicycle shop that is working on the bicycle called in the early afternoon and asked if they could finish the bicycle tomorrow. They are short of repair people and have a backlog of work. I said that would not be a problem.

Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17, 2000

Saturday was another nice rest day. In the late afternoon, we went shopping and picked up the bicycle. After we got the bicycle back to my daughter’s house, I checked the rim strip on the rear wheel to make sure that it was covering all of the spoke holes and then I mounted the rear tire on the new rim. I then adjusted and lubricated the new chains while Mary Kay cleaned the bicycle.

On Sunday we had a good fun Brunch with several relatives. Later Bruce, my son in the Coast Guard, called and told us that he was going to be on board ship and out of town until the first weekend in August. Then he is not sure that he will be able to get time off of the ship to spend with us. He also said that he did not think that he would be able to forward Mary Kay’s pills to Katie’s house because he was confined to the ship and her pills were at his house. He called back about 4 hours later and told us that he had the pills in his hand so he was able to get back to his house to get the pills. Later he called again and said that he was not sure that he would be able to mail them.

We are in a quandary now over how to see Bruce. We (both Mary Kay and I) have promised Bruce that we will come to his house this summer. We do not know when we will be able to get there or how we will get to his house. Tomorrow we are bicycling to Manitowoc WI to catch a ferry to Ludington MI. From there we will bicycle to my other daughters house in the Dayton OH area. Where we will go from there we do not know at this time.
