Reedsburg to Baraboo

Monday, July 10, 2000

Today we visited the Rockwell Museum in Reedsburg WI. It was a disappointment in that it mainly consisted of a lot of old magazine covers. I did not see any original Rockwell paintings.

After the Rockwell Museum, we rode the bicycle back to the motel, paid the bill and finished loading up the bicycle. We then rode the bicycle to North Freedom where we expected to ride on a steam powered train. Disappointment number 2, the steam locomotive was in the shop for repairs. We looked at the railroad equipment that they had displayed and then rode to a restaurant for lunch. After lunch we started to ride to Baraboo WI. After going about ½ way to Baraboo, we had another flat rear tire. We found some shade in a farmers yard, removed the tire from the wheel, and then carefully examined the wheel rim. I discovered that the rim tape had slipped and a sharp edge around one of the spoke holes was cutting holes in the inner tubes. It took about ½ hour to get the rim tape back into place after which I reinstalled the tire on the wheel and the wheel on the bicycle. I hope that this eliminates some of the flat tires we have been having. We found that both Mary Kay and I are extremely tired. It was a great effort to climb any size of a hill so we found a motel and did nothing except watch TV and read books.

Tomorrow, we plan on going through the Circus World Museum and then we plan on riding toward Germantown and a long rest.
