Distance Cycled: zero miles
Today was our first rest day. A rest day means no traveling, today we also made it a, do not get the bike out of the hotel room, day. The Red Lion Hotel provided breakfast that was enjoyed by all. Jane, George and Mary Kay walked throughout Missoula in the morning, while Jim tried to do some business on the phone. Jane was able to buy something that will help her clean her camel back water carrier. In the afternoon each couple did their own thing.
Jim and Mary Kay visited the Adventure Cycling Associating headquarters and enjoyed the free ice cream and the use of the internet to catch up with emails, etc. It was great to talk to fellow cyclists and hear about their adventures. We stopped at Safeway and picked up some snack food to carry tomorrow as the towns will be few and far apart. We also spent a couple of hours reading in our hotel room, and just relaxing.
At 4:30 we started walking across town to the Bridge Restaurant where we were met Jan, Ken and Ken's sister Janet for dinner. We followed the river path until Jane & Mary Kay noticed a beautiful Carousel, with wonderful carved horses, needless to say Jane and Mary Kay had to have a ride. It was a great ride and well worth the 50 cents. It helps when you are older; they give you a better price cut. Jan and Ken treated us all to an excellent dinner at the Bridge Restaurant. Most of us had some form of pasta, good bicycling food.
We walked back to the hotel, packed up, enjoyed the hot tub and tomorrow we head out to Lincoln, our bicycle chains are all clean and oiled and we are ready to go back to the cycling, but it was great to have a day to walk and look.
