Great Falls, MT - Rest Day
Thursday, July 29, 2004
Distance Cycled: 14 miles
Average Speed: 10.8 mph
Today was a rest day, so we slept in, not really as the body, seems to know you normally get up. After breakfast in the Days-Inn-Motel lobby, we all got our bicycles out of the room and headed across Great Falls. Our first stop was a bicycle shop, where Jim bought now brake pads for the Rans disk brake, and George bought a new back tire for his bike. We had so much fun talking to everyone that this took a little over an hour. We then followed the directions to a coffee shop, where the coffee was enjoyed.
We were now ready for sight seeing, we followed a nice bike path out of town, along the Missouri River, we stopped several times to watch the birds.
A couple of miles later we arrived at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. What a great place to visit, they had lots of great exhibits and several live demonstrations. I think we would of stayed for a couple of more hours only, by 1:30 we were so hungry we knew we needed to return to town and locate lunch. We found a wonderful fountain in the back of a drug store. The sandwiches, salad and milkshake were very good.
We bicycled with Ken and Jan over to the CM Russell Museum. We spent a couple of hours looking at the great art exhibits. It is a beautiful museum and well worth the time. Jim especially enjoyed the exhibit of miniature wagons made to scale. The wagons came from a collection that belonged to a man in Beaverton, OR. Mark, our son, who maintains our website lives in Beaverton. Seems like a long ride to see something from Oregon.
Tonight for supper everyone did there own thing. Two couples walked over to the grocery store and ate in their rooms; Jim and I walked the other direction and ate at a Mexican Restaurant. After dinner Mary Kay tried two different places to get a new battery for her watch. She finally had to settle for buying a new watch.
