Monday, August 2, 2004
Distance Cycled: 55 miles
Vertically Climbed: 945 feet
Average Speed: 13.6 mph
Today we all got up at different times and walked a couple of blocks to a restaurant, except for George and Jane who rode their bike down the hill. We started ridding around 7:00 it was cool, which was nice for we had a large climb the first 8 or 9 miles. After that the ride was mostly down with a considerable head wind most of the way. Today was a very private day as most of us rode most of the way without seeing the other riders. There were very few cars on the road, if you did not count all the carnival trucks that were leaving Lewistown and going on to their next stop. We also saw lots of animals that had not made it across the road in one piece.
We all arrived in Winnett around noon; this is a great town to visit. The motel is clean and reasonable, and the people are very friendly. We all enjoyed a good lunch in the café, and visited the local grocery store. Jane left her bicycle glove at the store, and they called the motel and tracked us down. The library was closed, but a couple of people called the librarian, and then she notified the motel, so we could walk down and use the internet. The local school has 102 students in K-12 and the county and school library are combined. The library is full of good books and is a great place to get caught up on all our mail.
Tonight we are all returning to the same cafe for dinner and then we will call it an early night as we prepare to ride tomorrow to Jordan. Ken and Jan are planning on visiting the city swimming pool.
