Bicycling the Lewis & Clark Trail
Jordan to Circle, MT

Wednesday, August 04, 2004
Distance Cycled: 69 miles
Vertically Climbed: 2680 feet
Average Speed: 10.6 mph

Today was another hard wind day. The day started when four of us rode up the hill for breakfast, there was a slight wind at 6:00. We were hopping for no wind until 10:00. That was not the pattern for today. We had easterly winds all day, which was not good as we were traveling east most of the day. In addition, we continued to go up and down hill after hill. We had the first hill about 3 miles out of Jordan and the last hill when we were within 15 miles of Circle. It seemed that we were constantly going up a hill or going down a hill with the easterly wind keeping us from going much over 20 miles per hour even on steep down hills.

Road to Circle

We arrived in Circle, around 2:45, a lot earlier then yesterday, which gave George and Jane time to visit the Library, and Jan time to do laundry. We were tired enough that we all walked across the parking lot to the ice-cream/café for dinner. There seemed to be no point in walking back to town. Even though it has been several hard days because of the wind we are still all enjoying Montana. This state has less then 1 million people, you can go miles, without seeing anyone.
