Bicycling the Lewis & Clark Trail
Mobridge to East Whitlock, SD
Tuesday, August 17, 2004
Distance Cycled: 68 miles
Vertically Climbed: 2,300 feet
Average Speed: 13.4 mph
Today we left after breakfast, Scott did not have a good beginning, as he had 3 flat tires before he had completed the first 10 miles. We followed Highway 83 today, because we heard that it was a road with new construction. The bad news was that they had only completed 17 miles of the construction, and the rest of the time we had the bumps or large cracks. Mary Kay had trouble with her back as the back of her bike seat started coming apart, which meant she could not sit up straight. As soon as we got in the motel room. We called Coventry Bike Shop in Portland and they are sending us a new seat, it should be in Pierre tomorrow. This phone and mail capability is really great.
We are staying tonight at a Fish and Hunting Lodge/Motel. The place is very new and clean and the view of the Missouri River from our window is fantastic.
The food for dinner was great, a real improvement over last night. We are all looking forward to our ride tomorrow, and the rest day that will follow.
