Bicycling Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico - 2006
Kremmling to Frisco, CO
June 24, 2006
Distance 43 Miles
Climbing Elevation: 2,395 feet
We ate another good breakfast (Oatmeal with Raisins and Brown Sugar) and started for Fresco. The first 2 miles were fairly level, Then we turned a sharp right hand corner, went down a small incline, crossed a flat and went up our first 5% or greater grade for the day. For the next 20 miles we would climb a little and then go down another incline and then climb again. Each climb took us higher than the climb before it. About a third of the time we were climbing 5% or greater grades, none of which were very long. We passed the Green Mountain Reservoir.
After we passed the reservoir, we climbed at a steady rate but had no real steep sections. We stopped in Silverthorne CO and had ice cream. We should have stopped and ate a full lunch because the next mile was all 5 % or greater grades, with lots of traffic until we got to the top of the Dillon Dam. We were two pooped bicycle riders. We were now on a bicycle path and we were the only bicycle that we could see that had any kind of extra load. All the rest of the bicycle riders were riding without any extra weight. The first couple of miles of the bicycle path was very flat and then it turned into the trees. Suddenly we were going up and down again. The scenery was great but we had to work to enjoy it.
A couple of miles later we came to a sign that said you are entering Frisco and we left the bicycle path because it was going away from the area where our motel for the night was located. A few minutes later we were at the motel and blessed rest. After showers, we walked over to the shopping mall. Jim bought a Root Beer and a shirt that will dry faster then those we are currently carrying. Today we had cell service for the first time in several day, we ate supper at the motel restaurant and then we rested and got ready for tomorrow.
