Bicycling Montana, Wyoming,
Colorado and New Mexico - 2006

Saguache to Alamosa, CO

June 29, 2006
Distance 60.6 Miles
Climbing Elevation: 140 feet

This morning we walked to a restaurant for breakfast, loaded the bicycle and headed for Alamosa. We started out going over 20 mph. We were just going great and then the wind gods began to speak. We again had a headwind and for the rest of the day our speed varied between 13 and 18 mph. Our route was very flat. In 60 miles we only climbed 140 feet. We took rest breaks every hour since we were still feeling the effects of the previous days ride. We stopped in Hopper, CO and ate lunch. This country is very similar to the area around our home. We saw a lot of potato fields and hay fields. Nothing grows here without irrigation.

We arrived in Alamosa and went to the car rental agency where we had a car reserved. The problem was that they now have a new computer system. It took almost 1 and ½ hours to rent the car. The good news is that they are going to store our bicycle for us until we return the rental car.

We found a motel that had internet service and a guest laundry, took our showers and proceeded to do the laundry. Then we caught up on all of our daily work. Now to start a week of being tourist without the bicycle.
