Santa Fe Rest Day

July 9 & 10, 2006

For the last two days we have eaten a very good continental breakfast at our motel. We are staying in Santa Fe and enjoying the sites. We are located at the end of the bus line near a shopping center. So each morning we take the bus from our motel to the center of town.

On Sunday we shopped and shopped and visited two museums the Palace of the Governors and the Museum of Fine Arts, we had a tour guide at the Palace of the Governors and learned a lot about Santa Fe history. We also visited the Saint Francis Cathedral. The main structure is the Conquistador Chapel built of adobe in 1714. The Madonna statue dates from 1625.

By the time we returned to the end of the bus stop, we want straight to a Mexican restaurant, and then back to the motel to do laundry and rest up for Monday.

On Monday we took two buses and want out to Museum hill where we visited three additional museums. We first want through the Museum of International Folk Art, where they had interesting exhibits on the different beds and bedding used throughout the world, while you walked around they played the sound of someone sleeping. We really enjoyed the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the last and smallest museum was the Museum of Spanish Culture. We then returned to town and shopped and ate lunch. Mary Kay bought a skirt and some jewelry. Jim bought a new pair of pants.

Almost all the houses in Santa Fe look as though they are built of adobe and have flat roofs. The newer houses are built using usual construction with a stucco exterior.

Tomorrow we will ride to Lamy, NM and get on Amtrak. It will be our last day of bicycle riding for this trip. We will box the bicycle up and send it home as we visit the Grand Canyon and California. This evening, we walked next door to a real Mexican restaurant. Something happened that has never happened to us before. Mary Kay ordered the mild chili on the enchiladas; it was so hot it burned her lips. So she only ate about ¼ the dinner.
