Milton to Pensacola FL
Distance: 35.7 Miles
We have been going to bed very early. Our bodies do not recover from exhaustion as quickly as they used to. We have been sleeping 9 or more hours almost every night. Last night I did not sleep very well but at 5:30 AM I was awake so we got up, got dressed, loaded the bicycle and went to breakfast. At 7:30 AM we were riding to Pensacola. One big difference happened today that had not happened on any other bicycle riding day, we never entered a rural area. The entire distance from Milton to Pensacola was one business or residential area except when we were crossing a very long causeway with a bridge at each end.
We arrived at the motel so early that we were unable to get into our room. Finally the manager opened the door to the room so we could put our bicycle into the room and after quickly changing our clothes, we headed on an adventure. First we ate lunch. Then we got on a city bus and headed for the Naval Air Station to visit a museum. The problem that occurred was that I left my camera on the bus so we spent the next 2 hours waiting for the bus to see if we could rescue the camera. The bus arrived with a different driver but the driver had the camera. How blessed we are. We then rode the bus back to the motel, showered and walked to dinner. All in all it was not a bad Birthday day for Jim. Who is very happy to have his camera returned. The bus was a city bus in the ½ hour ride we had 3 different military police stop the bus and get on to make sure everyone had identification, as we entered and left the military zone.
