Columbus MS
Rest Day

We slept in this morning until 6:30 as this was a rest day. We walked downstairs and had a good breakfast and returned to our room to read for about an hour before we headed downtown to see Columbus.

We stopped at the Visitors Center located in the house where Tennessee Williams was born March 26, 1911. They had the Mississippi map we were looking for and lots of other information about things to see in Mississippi. We were talking to Virginia the director about our trip, the next thing we knew 2 reporters showed up to interview us and take pictures. Guess being our age and having cycled 42 states is interesting. Interesting to see if the articles get published, either way it was great to share our experiences.

Following the interviews we walked throughout the historic district and looked at lots of beautiful older homes. We even saw the house below where women met April 25, 1866 and decided to decorate both the gray and blue grave yards, this lead to Declaration Day or Memorial Day.

We walked along the River Walk and returned to town for an excellent lunch. Some of the best crab cakes we have eaten. We then walked back to our motel room to study the material we had picked up and decided to change our route through Mississippi. We will continue tomorrow to Aberdeen as planned and then head east instead of north. We think we know where we are going for the next 3 days but the rest of the middle of the trip is still up for discussion.

We walked to dinner and Jim is watching the Hockey game tonight as we prepare to ride tomorrow morning.
