2008 - May - June

Saturday, June 7, 2008
Houston to Grenada MS
Distance: 54.6 Miles

We got up at 5:45 had the bike ready to roll when breakfast was supposed to be ready at 6:30. We arrived in the motel lobby with no breakfast available, woke up the manager and soon we had cereal and milk. By 7:00 we were on the bumpy road heading east. We lucked out today about 20 miles into the trip the pavement smoothed out and we left the large bumps behind us. However, the hills became more numerous and with no shoulder we had lots of ups and downs. Most of the road was in a straight line with very few curves until we approached Grenada. The temperature was in the 90's with wind out of the South for most of the day. We had a lot more people wave and honk at us today the normal. All we can think is that the newspaper article was published and others have seen the article. Wish we had a copy of the paper.

Good news we had enough energy in our legs to take a side road off the route to visit a Fort built to stop the Union army on their way to Vicksburg.

When we arrived at the motel, (near the top of a big hill) we once again enjoyed the swimming pool, before we washed clothes in the sink and prepared to enjoy our rest day tomorrow. We walked a block to a near by restaurant and enjoyed the evening.
