Paris to Mt Pleasant TX
Distance: 38.0 Miles
We headed out this morning under gray skies again. The road was fairly flat. We completed the first 20 miles without getting into the granny gear. The ride was typical until we decided to stop and have a break about 12 miles from Mt. Pleasant, on our side of the road there was no shade but on the other side of the road there was shade. Jim looked to our front and then looked to the rear and did not see any traffic and told Mary Kay to cross over to the other side of the road. Halfway across the road he saw a car coming which hit the very front of the bicycle. The car that hit us stopped and helped Mary Kay to the side of the road while we waited for the ambulance to arrive. We then both shared our first ambulance ride into Mt. Pleasant. . Mary Kay had a broken rib, a broken left leg, and a pulled tendon and stitches in her left elbow. Jim had a sore left ankle, road rash on his left arm, and a sore left butt. Mary Kay after having every inch of her body x-rayed and watched over was released from the hospital on Sunday.
We will always remember our time in Mt Pleasant at the Titus Regional Medical Center. It is hard to believe we were hit by a car going 65 miles an hour and we both are up and walking and able to finish the trip on schedule to visit our children in Wisconsin and Ohio. We are truly blessed we were very lucky that we were not more badly hurt.
Saturday Jim rented a U-Haul truck so we can get the bicycle to Longview TX, put it into a bicycle box and send it home on Amtrak A great tour is over and we are both able to do another.
