Bicycling Utah, Arizona, Nevada

May - 2009

Saturday May 9, 2009
St George UT to Mesquite NV
Distance 49.3 Miles

Beautiful day woke up to blue skies and not to warm, we all walked across the street to restaurant and ordered breakfast. It was great having different food for a change. We loaded up the bikes and started out. Barb and Scott stopped to buy water while we rode on. Seven miles down the road we ran into a sign that stated we could not go on. As we were turning around Barb and Scott arrived and we all had to go back to get on to Highway 15, adding about 7 miles to the trip.

We soon came to the Welcome to Arizona sign, after a short stop we started cycling down the canyon. The road goes down for over 11 miles with parts of the road with no shoulder.

We were glad when we got out of the canyon where Highway 15 has good shoulders. Just as we arrived at the Nevada boarder we caught up with Scott and Barb

We arrived in Mesquite about noon, only to find that the motel room was not ready and they would have to put us on the 2nd floor. (Not fun with a bicycle.) We cycled around town looking for a place open for lunch. We finally found a coffee shop that made sandwiches, when we returned to the motel the room was ready. Scott was surprised to find he had broken 4 spokes in the rear wheel. Needless to say it took the next several hours to repair the bicycle. We walked a couple of blocks to a Casino for dinner.
