Bicycling Alaska
August - 2011
August 12-15, 2011
Fairbanks
Prep Days
We began our Alaska Bicycle adventure in Anchorage AK. We picked up our bicycle at Alaska Air Freight at the Anchorage International Airport. They brought us the bicycle and allowed us to assemble the bicycle in their warehouse. We than rode the bicycle the 7 miles from the airport to the hotel, most of the time we were on a bicycle path that avoided all of the roads. The next day we rode the bicycle to the Alaska Railroad where they placed it in the baggage car and we traveled by train to Fairbanks AK. The next day we rode a paddle wheel boat down the river and observed a bush pilot land and take off from the river alongside the boat. We also so a demonstration of how they start training dogs for a dog sled team.
On August 15th we rode the bicycle with our friends to the University of Alaska Museum of the North and viewed many interesting displays, and saw two good movies about Alaska.
