Bicycling Alaska

August - 2011

Friday - August 19, 2011
Black Rapids to Denali Hwy Cabins
Distance 42 Miles

Today we began the day going uphill. At first it was a gentle uphill but after a short distance we hit a short but steep uphill. We made it up about ¼ of the way and had to get off the bicycle to walk the rest of the way. My legs were still tired from the exhausting ride we made the day before, most of the day we continued to ride uphill, in all we climbed 1873 feet and rode 42 miles. Finally we reached Summit Lake, the highest point on the days ride. We rode on a flat section of road for about 5 miles along the shore of Summit Lake and then went downhill at greater than 20 miles per hour to our nights cabin lodging.
