Denali to Gakona Lodge
Distance 59 Miles
Yesterday was a rest day at Paxson AK. Today we rode 59 miles to Gakona AK. We climbed 1516 feet but ended the day going down a long steep road to the Gakona River where our accommodations for the night at the Gakona River Lodge where we had shared toilets and showers for the third day in a row. The morning ride started on a long downhill. Near the end of the downhill we stopped at the Meiers Lake Roadhouse and had a second breakfast, then continued our ride with several climbs. Finally, at the junction of Hwy 1 and 4 we stopped at an espresso hut and had ice cream. 2 miles farther we finished the days ride.
