Bicycling to the Lewis & Clark Reunion Weekend

June - 2012

Thursday - June 14, 2012
Pasco, WA to Hermiston, OR
Distance Traveled: 39.3 miles
Distance Climbed: 1,882 Feet

We left Pasco around 9:00 AM. We were traveling on two bicycles. Most of our stuff was loaded on a "Bob" trailer. Because we needed clothes for both bicycle riding and for Mary Kay's 50th college reunion, the trailer was over loaded.

After about 25 miles, I noticed that the bicycle was getting very loose. I was off the bicycle and I checked the rear wheel and it was very loose and could be moved side to side. Somehow the quick release had worked itself partially open. I tightened it back up and we continued on our way. When we reached Hermiston, the bicycle was again very loose and again the quick release on the rear wheel was partially open. It appeared that the heavy weight of the "Bob" trailer was causing the quick release to partially open.

After reaching the motel, we checked in and found out that the post office was about 1/2 mile away. I rode the bicycle to the Post Office and mailed a bunch of clothing to our son Mark in Beaverton OR. This will reduce the weight that was in the "Bob" Trailer and hopefully solve out problem.

Mary Kay was very tired. It was a hard day for her since we did a lot of climbing and the longest that she rode the bicycle before today was 37 miles. She also did not eat very well today. As soon as I got back from the Post Office I took her to a Dairy Queen for a treat to get some energy into her. We ate supper at a Mexican restaurant.

Tomorrow will be an easier day
