Bicycling to the Lewis & Clark Reunion Weekend

Boardman to Biggs, OR
Distance Traveled: 60.3 miles
Distance Climbed: 1,107 Feet
We left Boardman around 7:00 AM. As we started to ride the bicycles today, Jim heard this noise coming from his bicycle. Jim stopped and tried to find out what was causing the noise but he was unable to figure out what was rubbing on what. After stopping at least two times, Jim discovered that the plastic strap that holds his taillight on the bicycle was rubbing on the rear wheel. Bending the plastic strap fixed the problem and on we went.
Today's ride was all on Interstate 80N until we reached Rufus which was only 5 miles from our Motel. For the first 20 miles we had no wind and traveled at better than 12 miles per hour. As we approached Arlington OR we suddenly had a strong headwind which stayed with us until we reached Blalock Canyon. Just as quickly as the headwind appeared it disappeared as we came down to the level of the river at Blalock Canyon. Ten miles further on the headwind was back and we fought it for the rest of the day. To make matters worse, we were constantly going up and down hills.
Needless to say, Mary Kay was exhausted by the time we reached the motel. We even stopped at a convenience store in Rufus and took a 20 minute break and MK walked the last hill before Biggs. We rode down the hill into Biggs, registered at a motel and rested. We need to recover because we have 45 miles to ride tomorrow, and 4 more days of ridding.
