Officially my check-ride examiner was my first passenger although he didn't feel much like a passenger. Today, I went flying with my friend Will - my first passenger after the examiner. He is a flight instructor with a tailwheel endorsement so in a way he didn't feel that much like a passenger either. We both attend a men's breakfast Wednesday's from 6:00-7:00am. We had decided earlier in the week to go up after breakfast. So, after breakfast we headed out to Twin Oaks on a beautiful calm sunny morning. After takeoff we headed south not really knowing where we were headed. I leveled off at 3,500 feet at which point we decided to go to McMinnville. I circled in and made an OK landing. After landing I asked Will if he wanted to take the plane off. It had been a while since Will had flown a tailwheel plane so he was quite excited about the opportunity. After watching me make a second landing in the grass he make three takeoffs and landings with the first being a bit more exciting than the last - the last was near perfect. We then headed back to Twin Oaks where I made a typically poor final approach but a pretty good landing. It was fun to be able to take someone with me. It was especially enjoyable seeing the smile on Will's face as he flew the 170. Unfortunately (as far as flying together), he is off to Africa next week for a two month mission trip so it will be a while before we are able to go flying again.
