I decided to fly to Spokane to visit my dad and his family while my wife was out of town on business. I had originally planed to leave Thursday afternoon after dropping my wife off at the airport but due to poor weather, I left the following day. The flight over was uneventful and lasted just over two hours and forty-five minutes. I had a great time visiting and hanging out. Saturday morning we went for a four hour motorcycle ride. Bruce rode his Harley, I rode dad's Harley, and dad rode on the back of his friend Ton's Harley. (We tried to convince dad it was just not right to ride on the back of another man's Harley but he has his hart set on it.) It was the first time I had ridden my old Harley since dad and I made the trade for the 170. The following picture was taken at one of the few stops we made.
Saturday afternoon I took dad up for the first time in the 170. I made a series of typically poor landings but we had a good time. Unfortunately, we both forgot to being along our cameras. Sunday was not a good day for flying with low overcast conditions. Since we could not fly, Dad, Bruce and I had fun welding up a stand for dad's Harley - Bruce did all the welding. The skies were still overcast on Monday but the cloud layer was high enough to fly. We needed to go over to Felts Field in order to fill up the tanks before my return trip to Portland - they don't sell fuel at Mead where I was parking the plane. Dad also wanted to take his friend Tom flying so Tom could see dad's old 1950 170A. I was also looking forward to taking a rear seat passenger in the 170. Up until that point, I had not flown with anyone in the rear seat. So, the three of us headed out to the airport. We didn't realize it at the time but this was also my dad's first ride in the rear seat of his old 170. It was cool that dad's first ride in the rear seat was also my first time flying with someone in the rear seat! The following picture was taken by dad from the rear seat as we flew into Felts Field.
