Kelly, a friend from church, agreed to accompany me on my Saturday morning flight. We had originally planned on flying to local airfields for stop-and-goes but as we were driving to the airport we decided it was too nice of a morning not to fly over to the coast. I had checked the weather at Tillamook earlier that morning and they were reporting low clouds and less than one half mile of visibility. I figured chances were good that it would be clear by the time we got there so we decided to go.
Kelly did most of the en-route flying and did a pretty good job for his first time at the controls.
We landed at Tillamook and then decided to fly over to Nehalem Bay. (Several weeks before we had both camped with family and friends at the Nehalem Bay State Park.) I had herd it is a tricky strip to land at so I was a little comprehensive as I flew the pattern. The strip actually reminds me a lot of Twin Oaks in that it is windy on final with trees blocking the wind as you get near the runway. Both runways also have water at the approach end of the runway - they are also about the same size. Anyway, we landed without incident and returned for home.
