When I traded my 170 for the Mooney I knew the Mooney had an overhaul in its future. We had originally planned the overhaul for last year but due to family issues, decided to put it off. I could probably stretch it out another year or two, however, I hate owing anything. Knowing that I have an expense waiting for me is just like knowing that I owe something - I hate it. I'm also sure flying behind a newly rebuilt engine will be a lot more fun than flying behind an old tired engine that is leaking oil. So, although I hate to spend the money, I'm kind of excited to fly the Mooney once the engine is done.
