Mark's RC Stevens Shaft 400

May 2009:

My third model was a Shaft 400 from Stevens AeroModel. I chose this model because I wanted an aerobatic trainer and felt I was ready for an advanced trainer. I also wanted to try a laser cut model. Laser cut models cost more (this one was about $75) but they are easier to build. Instead of a box full of balsa, a laser cut kit contains a box full of precut balsa sheets. I don't believe I had to cut a single part. The kit went together much faster and was a lot easier to build. It was also not quite as much fun. It would also be a lot harder to modify the design.

Although I didn't have as much fun building this kit, it is a lot of fun to fly. This plane is not relaxing to fly like the Telemaster but it is fun. I have also crashed this plane a number of times and it holds up well and has been easy to repair.
