Bicycling New England, the Erie Canal, & around Lake Ontario 2005
Newark to Rochester, NY
July 10, 2005
Distance 38.1 Miles
This morning we left the motel and we were surprised on how warm it was. It was warmer this morning then it was anytime the day before. We rode one block and then turned onto Highway 31 towards Palmyra and the bicycle path. There is a nice park there where you can see how the canal looked along time ago.
We easily found the bicycle path and followed it all the way to Rochester except for the last 2 miles looking for our motel. Most of the path was small lime stones but about 10 miles was paved. Going through Rochester on the bicycle path on a Sunday meant that it was pretty busy with people walking, and riding bicycles. We met several people along the path, some long distance riders like ourselves and others just out for the day.
We had a nice lunch in Fairport while we watched the car bridge raise and lower so the boats could travel the canal.
