October, 2006
Sylvania to Sandersville, GA
October 26, 2006
Distance 77.0 Miles
Elevation 1420 Feet
We awoke at our motel to another cold morning. We had to walk across the street to a restaurant for breakfast. We returned to our motel, packed the bicycle and headed out. We were supposed to travel 30 miles to Milen, GA but the weather predicted that we would have a lot of rain on Friday. Therefore we decided to do another 70+ mile day and bicycle all the way to Sandersville. Today was the warmest day we have had since we left Charleston, SC. By early afternoon, it was warm enough to ride the bicycle in a short sleeved shirt. However, I began to hear a funny sound whenever we stopped and took a break. I could not figure out what was making the sound. The next day I found out that the bicycle had a broken spoke and the rear wheel was no longer true.
Today we seemed to go up and down hills all day. None of the hills were very steep but we never seemed to go any distance without going up and down another hill. After what seemed like a century, on legs that felt like Jell-O, we arrived in Sandersville. We stopped and waited for Barbara and Scott who were riding behind us. While we waited, a local policeman stopped and suggested a shortcut to our motel. We reached the motel and found out that there was no restaurants any where near the motel. The bad news was that we are staying in this motel for 2 nights. Finding food is going to be a problem.
The owner of the motel drove Scott to the local Pizza place and he brought supper back for us all. The weather channel says we will have rain all day tomorrow so looks like we will be spending the night in Sandersville. We did make reservations for the rest of our trip.
