The sun was out again this morning and it was not as cold as yesterday. We started our last day of bicycle riding on this trip. The first thing we did was get back on that very busy 4-lane highway without any shoulders heading west. After a few miles it became a busy 2-lane highway without any shoulders. A few miles further on, we finally turned onto an old highway and got away from the heavy traffic. Today we again encountered lots of hills. However, in those hills we came across a very lovely lake.
It seemed as if we were getting into the granny every time we started going up hill. Part of the problem was that after two days of climbing hills, we were tired so even hills that we would normally be able to go up without getting into the granny gear, required a granny gear today. By early afternoon, we were walking most of the very steep hills, especially if they were very long climbs.
The good news is that 5 or 6 miles of the end of our route ran alongside a railroad track and the route was quite flat. We finally made it to the Amtrak station where we put our bicycle into a bicycle box before we headed to our motel for a good nights rest, and to spend tomorrow sight seeing in Atlanta before we return home via Amtrak, and Grand-daughter hugs.
