Snohomish to Skykomish WA
Distance 41.3 Miles
We started out again in cold weather and about 2 miles east of Monroe we came to a construction zone, but we were able to ride through on the shoulder. The road had been cut about 3 inches deep and was grooved, however the shoulder was fine except for lots of small stones on it from the grooving. The problem was that the construction people had signs on the shoulder at two or three places and there was very little room to stay on the shoulder and get around the signs. The construction ended at Sultan, and the rest of the road was level except for a mile or so where the grade was probably 4 to 6 percent.
Once again the sky looked like it would rain.
We stopped and had a short break in Baring where we enjoyed good food and the Post Office that is over 100 years old.
We arrived in Skykomish before the room was ready so we walked around town looking at the clean up the railroad was doing. Our room was upstairs so we left the bicycle outside on the porch. We had a good meal in the hotel dining room. The motel was rebuilt after a fire in 1930's.
