Bicycling to the NWTR Victoria, BC

June & July - 2009

Thursday July 9, 2009
Skykomish to Leavenworth WA
Distance 51.7 Miles

We stopped at the local convinece store for sandwiches to supplement the light breakfast we had cooked at the motel. There has been major oil leaks by the railroad. Skykomish used to be a railroad refueling station so they are cleaning up the environmental damage.

After you leave Skykomish, the grade is only 1 to 3 percent until you reach mile post 55. From there to the top of Stevens we had some major upgrades. It took us almost 4 hours to reach the top of Stevens Pass, using our granny gear and going only 3.5 to 4 miles per hour.

The ride down was a lot faster then the ride up and we followed the Wenatchee River most of the way.

We also had construction delays near Leavenworth (mile post 89 to milepost 99), but we lucked out arrived just as our string of cars were let thru so we did not have a long wait. We arrived in Levenworth checked into the motel and walked downtown for dinner.
