Bicycling to the NWTR Victoria, BC

June & July - 2009

Monday July 13, 2009
Desert Aire to Pasco WA
Distance 50.6 Miles

Woke up early and headed out. After traveling a short distance we came to a sign that said loose gravel, speed limit 35 miles per hour. We continued riding with a tail wind and just before we reached the Vernita bridge, we came upon the construction crew that was just getting ready to chipseal the highway we had just traveled. We stopped at the Vernita rest area. We left the rest area and in a short distance we were going up the the hill to the Yakima entrance to the Hanford Reservation. We had a good tail wind and were able to make good time. It was almost as if the wind knew we were headed home and wanted to help.

The Bad news is that after several miles we came to another road construction areathat was 20 miles long. At one point we followed a pilot car for 2 miles (The longest time we have ever been behind a pilot car). For most of this road construction we dodged gravel trucks hauling material to the areas where active construction was occurring.

We cycled into our driveway before noon. It felt good to be home, but now for the catching up on mail etc.
